Opening date: January 2003

The Welcome Lounge is the most popular Public Room. It was first opened Monday 20th of January 2003. When players first enter the hotel, the Welcome Lounge is where they are directed to. The Welcome Lounge was also one of the most popular hangout rooms to make new friends. Originally, it was operated by a Bot named Harry, and had a classical Habbo graphic style. Along with a few other old rooms, it was reintroduced to Habbo after the Beta update, which meant all Public Rooms were removed, although had a complete makeover - new furniture and different arrangements, giving it the look of a player-owned room. Harry was also replaced by Frank. After two cosmetic changes, The Welcome Lounge had a complete redesign including a bathroom and the Main Office public room accessible via teleporter behind Frank's desk.

During the time of the Habbo eXperts program, many eXperts spent their time in the Welcome Lounge as well as the Oasis, greeting new users to the hotel. During this period, the Welcome Lounge became so popular on some hotels that a second, and at some point a third, Welcome Lounge had to be added to cope with the additional users.

Early Years

Before The Welcome Lounge, a room known as the Entrance Lobby existed. The Welcome Lounge, although its name may suggest it was one of the first public spaces, was not added to Habbo until 2002. It had originally been part of a custom Crossroads client Sulake had built for a popular British soap opera and was incorporated into Habbo when the Crossroads client was taken offline.

It wasn't until late 2005 that new users started being directed to the Welcome Lounge, before this, they had been taken to hotel view.

Capturing Harry

Between 2005 and 2006, a group of Habbos, led by Y0WI, set out to "capture" Harry, the Welcome Lounge bot, by moving him out from behind the desk. Bots were programmed to move around randomly, but to return to an original square if once they travelled too far away from it. Habbos could disrupt this movement by forming a chain of Habbos behind Harry, waiting for him to move randomly, and shuffling up behind him. The team did this several times, trapping Harry in several corners of the Welcome Lounge, and even moved on to other bots in other public rooms. These Captures attracted quite a lot of attention as other users would come to watch and help out. Y0WI chronicled the team's efforts on his official fansite, Habbari.
