The Obsidian Baby Sheep was released as part of the Habbo Matchmaker activities, which ran from February 13 to March 3, 2025. The Matchmaker event returned after its original 2017 debut, bringing with it a romantic series of interactive games and challenges. Participants could take part in speed dating, enjoy a romantic dinner, and even experience a Habbo marriage, earning four unique badges along the way.

By completing all three stages of the daily Matchmaker activities, players received a special prize which contained one of several furni items with set probabilities:

• Obsidian Baby Sheep – 2–3%
• Rare Dove Swing – 1%

The Obsidian Baby Sheep was distributed randomly through these prize packs, making it one of the rarer Baby Sheep due to its low drop rate. Unlike other Baby Sheep, it was not tied to a single competition, so its total quantity is untrackable. Based on estimates, it is likely fewer than 100 in active circulation.
