Help:Creating A Category

Creating A Category is an important part of any Wiki, since it provides a vital role in both user navigation as well as page/file situation. From time to time you may feel it necessary to create a new, missing category for a page or file - this page will guide you on the easy process of doing so.

First and foremost it should be mentioned that you MUST NOT categorise anything as "Top level" - this is reserved exclusively for the four categories that currently exist there.

Deciding where to put your category

First you need to decide whether it belongs in the Category:Sulake, Category:Habbo, Category:Fansites or Category:HabboxWiki pages. As a general form of guidance:

  • HabboxWiki - Do not place anything here unless instructed to do so.
  • Sulake - Normally for Sulake staff members or Sulake businesses.
  • Fansites - Any Fansite can instantly just be categorised under here.
  • Habbo - If you need to use this category, you will need to choose a sub-category.

Choosing a sub-category

If you need to categorise under Category:Habbo, you must navigate to an appropriate sub-category. So for example, a page on the Dragon pet would need to go into the Category:Pets section. If necessary, you may need to navigate to yet another category after that, but this is highly unlikely and so shall not be mentioned here.

The only time you will not need to do this is if your category does not belong in any of the sub-categories. For example if Sulake introduced a brand new feature on Habbo called "Roleplaying", this would be its own category under Category:Habbo.

Creating your category

To create your category after you have located where you need to place it, ensure first you've taken note of where it needs to go (e.g. Category:Pets) as you'll need this during creation and then go to the top-right search bar and search for "Category:YOURCATEGORYNAMEHERE", e.g. Category:Exclusive Pets. If no results are returned, click on the red text and begin your creation.

Then all you simply need to do is type the following code in:

[[Category:THECATEGORYITNEEDSTOGOINHERE]]

An example in which you create the page Category:Exclusive Pets would contain the following code:

[[Category:Pets]]

Press save and there is your category saved! You are now able to categorise other pages/files using this category, so if you needed to add the Pacific Pirate Spider to your new Exclusive Pets category, you would type the following at the bottom of the Pacific Pirate Spider page:

[[Category:Exclusive Pets]]

Dont's

  • Do not create a category that is only going to contain one/two pages, find an alternative category to put it in.
  • Do not create categories with excessively long names.
  • Do not create categories that are typed Category:liKEThis With CapitALISation WroNg!
