Help:Editing Conventions

From Habbox Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Editing Conventions are general guidelines you ought to follow when adding/editing pages on HabboxWiki. The guidelines are put in place so that it makes it easier for other people to make adjustments to pages if necessary - as an example, if someone places in the middle of a paragraph instead of at the bottom of the page, this makes it more difficult for anyone to locate and amend in the future.

Categories

Categories should always be the very last thing typed on a page, at the very bottom. If you have multiple categories to add then you ought to put them each on seperate lines. An example of this is like so:

... start and middle of page above here, end below ...

In addition to this, the Credits hundreds of other users had gained by exploiting Splash Plastic were removed by Sulake staff shortly after this
event; this could have been entirely coincidental or Reem could have been the driving force behind this move.

Infoboxes

Infoboxes should always be the very first thing typed on a page, at the very top. You should not, as a general rule, need more than one Infobox on a page. An example of the ideal code is like so:

Habbo.ru was the Russian version of Habbo Hotel. It first opened...

... start of page above here, middle and end below here ...

Linebreaks

Do not use these to create gaps between paragraphs - simply press enter and make sure there's a gap. Outside of this, if you do need to use a linebreak in another circumstance then there is most likely no harm in doing so. An example of bad usage is here:

Hello I am the first paragraph, not a list.<br>
Hello I am the second paragraph, not a list.<br>
Hello I am the third paragraph, not a list.<br>

Instead you should just press enter and leave a gap.

Like so.

Linking

There are two types of linking on the Wiki - External (to other websites) and Internal (to other Wiki pages).

External

TBA.

Internal

Internal linking is relatively straightforward. The two important conventions to follow are:

 • Do not link to the same page several times on one Wiki page. So if you have already added Sulake onto the page you're working on, do not link it again.
 • Do mention the name of the page you're working on and link it. If you link the name of the page to itself then this causes it to be bolded. An example of this is the code from this page! Editing Conventions are general guidelines you ought to follow when adding/editing pages on HabboxWiki.

For an example of well-edited/formatted linking, see this example culled from the Habbottery page:

Habbottery was a one-off semi-official event promoted by Hotel Manager Jibbi and hosted by Habbo user 'Reem' on September 9th 2004.
The event is well regarded as being one of the biggest scandals/scams on the hotel with 40 Thrones not being rewarded as promised and
several thousand Club Sofas being conned out of users. Due to the nature of the hotel at the time, the scam had a wide-spread impact on users,
Hobbas and Sulake Staff.

*NOTE: The above is linking to a category, not a category for the page itself - just to clear up confusion!

NavBoxes

NavBoxes should be the penultimate thing typed on a page, directly above the Category. You should not use more than one NavBox on a page. An example of the ideal code is like so:

... start and middle of page above here, end below ...

In addition to this, the Credits hundreds of other users had gained by exploiting Splash Plastic were removed by Sulake staff shortly after this
event; this could have been entirely coincidental or Reem could have been the driving force behind this move.
