Help:Fansites

Fansite Pages are pages on the Wiki which explain Fansites and their history. There is a clearly set out format to Fansite pages which should be followed when creating them. How much information you have/is available about the Fansite will also affect the format to follow.

Any Fansite can have a page providing there is enough information to be written about it. You must first check if there is a pre-existing page for the Fansite by using the top-right search box, and if not, click the red text to create your page.

NOTE: YOU ARE NOT TO CREATE PAGES TO PROMOTE FANSITES!

Creating fansite pages

At the top of the page should be the following feature:

  • The fansite Infobox. This should be at the very top of the text box and is inserted by filling out the appropriate fields - an example is this one from the Habbox page:

After this you should start typing about the Fansite in question. Normally a brief overview is given at the top about the fansite, in which the most notable aspects of the site are mentioned. A good example of a well-written introduction would look like this one on the Habburgers (Fansite) page:

Habburgers was an official fansite for Habbo.co.uk. It opened in late 2004 and remained open for nearly three years until its closure in
mid-2007 for unknown reasons. The Fansite was named after the on-client restaurant - Habburgers - which was a Public Room on the hotel.
Habburgers was owned by beetlejooce and remained under his ownership throughout the three years it was open.

Following on from this, if there are only approximately two paragraphs to write in total with no clear way of separating those paragraphs into categories (e.g. HabbsTown), then go to the Short Page Format section of this page. If there is more information to be written and can be categorised easily (e.g. HabView), you should follow the Long Page Format section.

Short Page Format

If there is not much notable to say about said Fansite, simply go ahead and write down the rest of the information necessary (in paragraphs). This would primarily apply to Fansites that either didn't exist for very long or simply weren't popular amongst the Habbo community.

Whilst writing the remaining information, you should consider writing down the departments of said Fansite in bullet points. Like this example from HabbsTown:

* News - Articles about various events inside and outside of Habbo.de, with commentary enabled.
* Recent Badges - A widget displaying the most recently uploaded Badges onto the Habbo servers.
* Events - Events hosted inside Guest Rooms to promote the fansite.
* A forum - Which is still accessible albeit with no posts.

After this, proceed to the Help:Fansite Pages#Final Touches sub-category.

Long Page Format

For Fansites with a long history or who have been very well-known amongst the Habbo community, you should use sections and sub-headings for writing your content. The most common sections you will need to use will be:

==Departments== - If the Fansite has lots of departments.
==Website Features== - A list of the features available on the Fansite e.g. Badge Guides
==Controversy== - If the Fansite has been involved in any scandals.
==Official Events== - If any notable events have been hosted by said Fansite, include these here.

Other sections can of course be created at your discretion, should you see fit to do so.

After this, proceed to the Help:Fansite Pages#Final Touches sub-category.

Final Touches

At the end of your content should be a gallery with screenshots of the Fansite, as well as its Forum (if it has one) and any screenshots of older versions of the Fansite. A good example would be those on the HabView page. The code for creating a gallery is:

<gallery>
File:FILENAMEHERE.PNG OR .JPG OR .GIF|CAPTION HERE
File:FILENAMEHERE2.PNG OR .JPG OR .GIF|CAPTION HERE
</gallery>

At the very bottom of your text editing box, below all text, should be:

  • A NavBox - the one you are most likely to need is the one titled Fansites; simply type
    NavBox Fansite.
  • A category - the one you are most likely to need is the one titled Fansites; simply type
    .

A word on redundancy

When writing your page, do not include unnecessary or volatile information. For example you ought not to mention staff who aren't the owners/founders/administrators, as there could be many staff working on one Fansite who have come and go over the years. The obvious exception to this would be any staff who have made some notable contribution into anything to do with said fansite.

To re-iterate, you must also not promote the Fansite. You need to remain as unbiased as possible - do not use phrases like "thankfully" or "amazingly" or "despite all hardship we came out on top!" as these detract from the factual sense of the page.
